Like most musicians, Ian's plans for 2020 are currently on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Ian will use this space to upload links to a video or two in this time of lockdown...
As I lay in the early sun - Gerald Finzi
To mark the postponed SongNights event at the Voices of London Festival, Jamie Hall at Nwfrntiers created this video of Ian and Nick Pritchard performing this early Finzi song. The evening was to be an exploration of Finzi's choral and song repertoire, led by Katy Hamilton and Ian Tindale, with Nick, Theodore Platt, Helen Smee and the Festival Consort, and it will be rescheduled for 2021.
'Le corbeau et le renard' by Andre Caplet
Ian was due to perform at the International Lied Festival Zeist announcement recital with soprano Harriet Burns. Their programme of fairytales and fables featured this story of a raven and a fox, which was recorded early in 2019.
Songs my mother taught me - Dvorak
Ian and soprano Milly Forrest were due to perform together at the end of April, and have come together to create this socially distant video of Dvorak's most famous song.
Zerfliesse, mein Herze (St John Passion) - JS Bach
Ian and Elinor Rolfe Johnson were due to perform on 25th April, together with soprano Milly Forrest, at Famington Farm, Barcheston, where Ian has appeared a number of times. Sadly this wasn't able to go ahead, but instead Eli and Ian separately recorded JS Bach's beautiful aria from the final section of the Passion according to St John.
Excursions, Op.20 No.3 - Samuel Barber
I heard this piece for solo piano in recital a number of years ago, and lockdown has finally afforded me the time to learn it. The set of 'Excursions' are based on different idioms from across America, and the theme for this beautiful set of variations is a cowboy ballad 'The Streets of Laredo'.
